5 SM Etiquette Tips: Mind Your Manners

I’ve been meaning to write a post on Social Media Etiquette for a while now because it seems like some people still don’t get it or flat out don’t know how to act. Just because we are ‘socializing’ online, does not give you the right to have your way with me… (you know what I mean!)

Believe me when I say, I have a laundry list of Social Media Do’s and Don’ts but the ones I will share with you today, are the ones that really need to be addressed.

5 Social Media Etiquette Tips

Do Not Friend Me to Spam Me. This happens most often on Facebook. I’m very picky when it comes to the ‘friends’ I accept, however, once in a while a Clever Claire charms her way through.

You’ve met her (or him…I don’t discriminate) before. Her wall and friend list is set to private, her bio is pretty basic and lacks any real detail and though you don’t have much in common, you give her the benefit of the doubt because she adds a message along with her friend request telling you how much she admires what you do.

Once you hit the ‘accept’ button, BOOM…her wall is visible and you’ve noticed she’s added hundreds of people and has yet to share 1 wall post. If you don’t delete her right then, she begins to invite you to every ridiculous event and amazing opportunity under the sun.

Do Not Use My Wall as Ad Space. Yet another sleazy Facebook tactic that drives me up the wall (no pun intended!) It’s one thing when we have a relationship and you respectfully ask me beforehand if you can post something business related to my wall, but when you come to my page, greet me by name and post your ad about something I have NO interest in…it will get removed.

The worst part is going to their wall to see how you even know the person and find out they posted the same Ad on 50 other profiles, um…DELETE!

Give Credit Where Credit is Due. This is just a matter of simply respecting the knowledge and skills of others. If you come across a blog post, status update or any meaningful content and you want to share it with others, always reference and link to the person who originally posted it.

We all work hard at what we do and we need to have a “pay it forward” mentality, especially in the social media arena.

Selflessly Promote Others. This ties in with giving credit where credit is due. Social media extends to us the ability to connect with some wonderful people in all types of industries. We are able to almost effortlessly, meet and share with other business owners and entrepreneurs across the world.

So, go out of your way to willingly promote other people, their business and services with your network and circle of influence.

Please Do Not Beg Me to Join. I may be supermom to my children but by no means am I superwoman to the world; I cannot be everywhere all the time (even though it may seem like I am at times!)

I have no problem being invited to take a look at a group, new social community or even chatting about a business venture but, there is no way I can join every offer presented to me.

So if after a few weeks I have not jumped on board, please do not continue emailing or blowing up my inbox begging for me to ‘just check it out’ or see ‘what’s new’.

Think about it, if someone was interested in what you were offering, they will find a way to contact you or give you the thumbs up to contact them again…stop begging, it’s not a good look!

Your Online Network Marketing Strategy SUCKS!

Let me first start off by saying, my intentions are never to offend anyone even though I realize what I’m about to share may indirectly strike a nerve with some of you, because I’m calling it as I see it. Try not to get defensive, I’m simply expressing my opinion (which I’m entitled too) and I will not apologize for it. Hopefully, you will take what I share, and reevaluate your online network marketing strategy…quickly!

The reason I can be this blunt is because I know what I’m talking about. I have been a network marketer for nearly 10 years and in the first 2-3 of those years, my online network marketing SUCKED! YES, I can admit it…because since then, I have learned a lot and my success has turned around completely.

You may be someone who recognizes your doing something wrong because the lack of leads generated or the fact you’re not making any sales. Or perhaps you are getting leads and making sales but there is no growth within your organization or many repeat sales.

It’s really not your fault that your online marketing strategy sucks, like most of us, your only doing what your company trained you to do – if you even got training at all. The problem with many of these companies is that they are teaching traditional marketing techniques that rarely fair well in today’s online market.

When we bring our business online, we often make the mistake of trying to promote it in a traditional sense because our companies tell us, “everyone can benefit from our product or service”. Naturally, our mind begins to conceive the idea that the internet will produce for us an endless stream of cash in hand, pool of customers.

So if this holds true, why isn’t it working for you? What are you doing that is causing your online marketing to suck?

Here are the 5 top reasons why your network marketing business is not growing online.

  • You are ruining your credibility – You regularly post your sales, company promotions and discounts across all your social network platforms. Of course you are excited about your products however, operating your business this way devalues what you offer and lacks professionalism. There is nothing wrong with discretion, share this information with only those who are interested in the first place.
  • You are attempting to market to everyone – Again, you know your products and services are great, but no matter what your company tells you…I’m sorry, everyone DOES NOT want it! Stop offering to everyone whether it is through status updates, email or inbox messages, you must be selective. Learning to target your specific market will yield much better results and prevent you from missing the opportunity to establish solid business partnerships.
  • You are promoting a company replicated website – Having a company website is a great tool to share with prospective customers or business partners you are following up with but using this as your main website does not allow you to stand out from other reps within your company or give prospects a reason to want to do business with you. Instead, send people to your own branded website or blog where you display your area of knowledge and expertise while encouraging a personal connection with you instead of using a generic approach.
  • You are promoting your company instead of branding you – The harsh reality of this is nobody cares about your company’s accolades, facts or what makes them so great. People do business with people –people they like. You need to make yourself stand out amongst the sea of other independent reps in your company. Give people a reason to want to shop with you are partner with you.
  • You are looking for customers and not business partners – The biggest reason why most network marketers are not growing in their business is because they are online looking for customers. Network marketing is a people business, as stated above, people are far more likely to do business with people they know, like and trust. With the millions of individuals already selling “something” online, mix that with the number of reps in your company selling the same thing as you, it is highly unlikely you will earn a consistent amount of income online that will sustain you. Sell your products offline and focus on building your business team/organization online. Statistics show individuals online seeking a business opportunity far out way those looking to buy products.

These are just a few of the reasons why your network marketing business may not be growing online. I suggest taking some time to discover what you may be doing wrong and correct it to start getting the results you deserve.

Why You Must Work at Building Your Facebook Following

If you are serious about building your business online and creating buzz for your business using Facebook, you have to accept the fact that you are going to have to work at building your following. Understand that just because you create a Fan Page or Page for your business, does not mean people will automatically follow you.

When consulting with new business owners, I find the most common mistake being made is creating a Fan Page without a purpose. Realize that your Fan Page is another marketing tool for your business which first requires planning a strategy to implement.

Before you jump right in and start a Fan Page because “it’s what everybody else is doing”…Determine Your Purpose.

Why You Should Have a Plan…

Easily put, you need to know what your working to build your Facebook following for (leads, traffic, etc.) and to establish who are the people you want following you. Once you’ve figured that out, you now have an audience to market too.

Here are 3 Reasons Why You Must Work at Building Your Facebook Following:

  1. To Create a Niche Community – Once you have your plan in place and know how to proceed and in which manner to encourage “Likes”, you want to keep your page engaging and interactive so your followers keep coming back. You have to provide a blend of posts that provide valuable niche content along with audience interactions. Finding an equal balance that flows with your community will come from you, “listening” to the needs of your followers. Posting once a month simply won’t cut it…you have to be your communities most engaging and biggest fan.
  2. To Nurture Relationships and Build Connections – Another reason to work at building your Facebook following is so that you can stay connected with the people already in your networking circle, loyal blog readers and the such. Your Fan Page opens up another platform for you to stay in touch with the important people in your business world. You can of course, develop new relationships and establish new networking connections from people you meet in Facebook groups and are recommended to you by your raving fans.
  3. To Attract Collaboration and Partnership Opportunities – What better way to come across new ventures than to have them presented to you? When you properly work at building your Facebook following and use the right strategies to market to a predetermined audience, you place yourself in a position to receive more quality offers that will help leverage your business building efforts.

So, if you feel you don’t have the time to work at marketing your business on Facebook and taking full advantage of its free social media tools, you may not be ready to build your business online. Marketing a business online using social media takes work, but proven to pay off greatly when done right.

My suggestion, invest in the time it takes for you to learn the steps to successfully marketing with Facebook. Develop the skills required to build genuine connections, nurture relationships and establish community.

You have 2 options – Work hard for yourself or work hard for someone else…the choice is yours!

Why You’re Not Making Money in Your Business


WHY? Because this is an issue I’m seeing entirely to much and it is time for the women who are experiencing lack in their business to take a look at what could be the problem and take the steps to correct it.

What gives me the right? Well, because I’ve been there. Early on in my online entrepreneurial journey, I was a self proclaimed “Women Entrepreneur” for a long time, not making any money.

I thought entering the World Wide Web would bring me almost instant success (I said almost, because I knew I wasn’t going to become rich over night…but sure it was going to be soon after)

I’m not ashamed to admit, I didn’t have a clue…at first. I had an opportunity, a few ideas and was positive, I was gonna get paid! But after months of barely making enough money to pay my web hosting, I had enough sense to see what I was doing…was SO NOT working.

What I see today with many women, some of them in my circle, is that they are not making any money, yet they continue to do the things that are NOT giving them the results they want.

If you want to be a women in business, making a generous profit that continues to increase month after month, you have to make some serious changes…PERIOD, starting with, (1) Changing your way of thinking, (2) Be willing to learn and/or invest in what it takes to “Get it Right” and (3) Be intentional and seriously, GET TO WORK!

Let’s Be Real… This thing called Entrepreneurship, is not easy. It takes a lot, and that’s why it is not a preferred choice for everyone. You have to be willing to give it your all…and then some, make sacrifices, and by no means can you give up.

What I discovered for myself, and from talking with those women who aren’t making money in their business, is that there are a few things that always arise and are key setbacks that prevent you from really experiencing an abundance in your business.

1. There is a lack of focus, clear direction and an actionable plan. For the most part, many women just simply don’t know what to do. They have no clue where to start or even how to start so they operate in spurts based on what they see others doing.

One week they are actively promoting their business, sharing and interacting online…then they disappear, only to resurface weeks later and repeat the cycle. There is no consistency so these women fall off the social radar and are rarely taken seriously.

2. The “Serial Entrepreneur”. Many of my Go-Getter sisters fall into this category and I totally support multiple streams of income…however, the problem here is with the women who are starting a new venture every other week and have yet to completely establish the previous business.

To be quit honest, these are the women who generally make the least amount of money, if any at all because they are often paying out, way more than what is coming in. With the different businesses they operate, they are often unable to discover and connect with a specific target market and in the process, reach only a very few.

3. Not committed to the full investment of time required. These are the women who have a clear goal and know what they have to do but are unable to dedicate the amount of time it takes to get it done. Because of this, they often go unnoticed even if they provide a remarkable product or service.

This woman may have other things going on in her life that keep her from being able to pursue her business in the manner in which she desires.

4. Making Excuses. This is another area many women fall into. Far to many excuses as to why they can’t start or grow their business. A lot of times it is because of a full-time job, or they are a single parent, or school or money…for some, these can be legit reasons BUT, there are lots of women who have the same things going on in their lives and still make it happen.

Most of the time, excuses are a disguise for fear. Fear of the “what if’s…”. As a lot of us do know, FEAR will stop anybody dead in their tracks and surly keep you paralyzed in your business.

Do you fall into any of these categories?

If so, I encourage you today to take a step back and reassess your situation. Acknowledge where you are falling short and determine the steps you need to take to move forward in prosperity.

It’s not easy, and we have all been in at least one, or some of these places at some point in our journey. The key to getting unstuck is to seek out the best support for you.
