How To Create A Dynamic Free Twitter Profile Header in Minutes

Dynamic Twitter Profile In Minutes

I really admire people that are can create incredible graphics for blogs and social media. I simply do not have a great artistic talent. I am a terrific critic after the fact, but like many people, I have not been too successful at accomplishing it without paying $$$ for it.

So what have I been missing all this time???

An EASY to use tool where I could drag, paste and upload!!! Where you can create an incredibly crisp and clean social media header with little effort.

The past few months, I have been using a tool that is incredibly easy and effective to create header graphics on Canva.com.

One of the issues with creating a graphic is getting the right resolution. I always found that when I tried to increase it to the appropriate size, the image would tend to get fuzzy. Have you experienced this??

With Canva.com, you can choose from a large selection of Twitter, Facebook and Google+ covers. You can use their designs, some for free and others only $1. I chose to create  my own background from their large selection and I believe I did pay $1. It’s certainly a lot less than the average price of $150 to hire a graphic designer. Best of all, you can go back later and modify your design!! Canva saves your banner!!

Below is my own Twitter profile header. You can be the judge. What do you think?

There are so many other ways you can use Canva for your blog and social media which I will be addressing soon.

Hope this has been helpful. Would love for you to tweet me @dede_watson or leave your comments below if you have used Canva before or if this post spurs you to create a new profile graphic. Show me your amazing new design!!

How Twitter Keeps Getting More Social With Photos

Phototagging_FINAL

Twitter rolled out 2 new features in March that are an attempt to match 2 of Facebook’s most popular features. They realize how important images are to their followers and have responded with 2 incredible ways you can turn your tweets into a higher level of social engagement with photo tagging and adding up to 4 pictures to a tweet.

Why is it important to add photos to your tweets?

  1. According to Twitter,  tweets that have images receive a 35% boost in retweets.
  2. Since people are visual, it tends to draw their attention to you. It can increase your following, create conversation.
  3. If you are promoting an event, chat, or product, it will generate more interest in what you are promoting. Quotes within an image are also  a great example of what tweets are well received with photos.
  4. Showing your “personal” side with your followers. People connect with those they feel comfortable with.  Personal photos normally are well received with retweets.

Advantages of Photo Tagging

  1. Tagging doesn’t affect character count.
  2. You can tag up to 10 people.
  3. If you are tagged in a photo, you’ll receive notification in your stream.
  4. Photo tagging and Tweets with multiple photos will display in an embedded tweet.

I use often use images with my client’s tweets to make an impact. This doesn’t mean that every tweet should have an image attached. Use them where you feel they will be most effective. Check your analytics through Twitter Analytics and other sites like Kred, They are both 2 free incredible resources that will give you a great overview and insight into what tweets are driving the most engagement. Love them both.

What success have you had with tweeting with images and do you find certain types of images are working better for you?

5 Tips To Maximize Your Event With Social Media

Social media and events

You have just received a booking to speak at a big conference.  What do you do next? How do you get the buzz going for this event and for you.

Here are 5 tips to help you use social media at your next event:

1. Find out from the event manager who the other speakers are at the event.

Have a look for them on Twitter and add them and start to interact with them and share their tweets.  Interact with them on the day and retweet their interesting tweets.

2. Find out if the event has a hashtag and twitter handle

Most events have a hashtag at the very least.  Some even have a twitter handle or the company running it will use their handle.  Follow them and start using that hashtag and tell your followers that you will be speaking at the event.  Use the hashtag on the day and tweet insightful tweets, upload pictures and videos from the event and share tweets from other people at the event.

3. Remind the audience what the hashtag is

Before you speak, during your talk and when you end it find ways to tell the audience what the hashtag is and encourage them to take pictures and videos of the event using the hashtag.  If the event has no hashtag create your own. Eg #FredFeltonBizWorkshop or #FredFeltonBizTalk

4. If you are the MC remember that hashtag

If you are booked as the MC on the day it is your job to remind the speakers and the audience what that hashtag is.  Find interesting ways for them to use it as well.

5. Keep the buzz going

After the event keep the buzz going by tweeting some more insightful tweets about the event with the hashtag and also interact with the other speakers on twitter.

In so doing you can keep the buzz going about the event and this could just lead to your next booking.

What other tips can you suggest?
